Let's jump right into it.

How to Find the Best Hotels With EV Charging

The best way to find hotels with EV charging stations is to use an online booking site that allows you to easily filter your results. If you drive a Tesla, you can also use the Tesla destination charging map. For all other electric vehicles, you can use PlugShare.

But to book any place you find using Tesla Destination Charging Map or PlugShare, you'll need to use one of the booking sites.

My top recommendations for booking sites:

  • Booking.com
  • HotelsCombined
  • Kayak

I recommend using Booking.com, as they have a user-friendly interface and offer a variety of hotels to choose from. If you also want to see prices from all the major booking sites, I recommend using an aggregator like HotelsCombined. Kayak is also great.

Let's look at all your options one by one.

1. HotelsCombined

HotelsCombined is an online hotel search engine that allows you to compare prices from multiple booking sites at once. HotelsCombined is part of Booking Holding Inc which also owns popular booking sites like Booking.com, Priceline, Agoda, RentalCars and Kayak.

The best thing about HotelsCombined is that it includes an option to filter your search results by amenities. To find hotels with EV chargers on HotelsCombined:

  1. Enter your destination and dates into the search engine. Click Search.
  2. Then, select “EV Charging” under the “Amenities” filter.

This will narrow down your search results to only hotels that have EV charging stations. You can also use the “Price” and “Star Rating” filters to find a hotel that fits your budget and preferences.

Once you've found a few hotels with EV chargers, it's time to compare prices and reviews to choose the best one for your trip.

I usually use Booking.com for most of my bookings. HotelsCombined is my go-to site when planning a trip to make sure I am getting the best price for my booking.

As I mentioned above, HotelsCombined allows you to compare the price of accommodations from multiple booking sites at once. This is helpful because you can often find a better deal on one site than another.

Top Tip: Stack up your savings by making your booking via TopCashback (6.6% cashback on HotelsCombined). Sign up for a free account now.

2. Booking.com

Booking.com is another popular online booking site for accommodations where you can filter hotels with EV charging stations.

  1. Go to the Booking.com website and enter the details for where you're going and when. Click Search.
  2. In the filters section, scroll down to Facilities and select Electric vehicle charging station.

Top Tip: Stack your savings by making your booking via TopCashback (3% cashback on Booking.com). Sign up for a free account now.

3. Kayak

Kayak is another travel metasearch engine to compare the prices of flights, hotels and rental cars. It's similar to HotelsCombined in that it searches multiple hotel booking sites at once. Kayak belongs to the same group that owns HotelsCombined and Booking.com among other popular booking sites.

To find hotels with EV chargers on Kayak:

  1. Go to the Kayak website. Click Stays and enter your travel details into the search bar.
  2. In the filter pane on the left, select EV charging station from the list of options under “Amenities.”

Kayak also lists hotels, inns, apartments and private rentals that practice sustainability to reduce their environmental impact. Look for the leaf icon next to the listing with the “Travel Sustainable” label to find these accommodations.

4. Expedia

Expedia is an online travel agency where you can find deals on flights, hotels, rental cars and vacation packages. It's owned by Expedia Group, the same company that owns popular booking sites like Travelocity and Hotels.com.

  • Now you can filter the available options to suit your requirements. In the left filters section, scroll down to find Amenities. Click See more to expand all the available options. Now, select Electric car charging station.

Top Tip: 8.4% cashback on bookings purchased via TopCashback. You can sign up for a free account here.

5. Hotels.com

Hotels.com is a hotel booking website that offers a “Best Price Guarantee.” This means that if you find a lower price for the same hotel elsewhere, Hotels.com will refund you the difference.

Hotels.com belongs to the Expedia Group, so the process for finding hotels with EV chargers is similar to Expedia's.

Hotels.com also has a rewards program where you can earn one free night for every ten nights that you book.

To find hotels with electric car chargers on Hotels.com:

  1. Go to Hotels.com
  2. Search for a destination with your travel details. Hit search.
  3. In the filters section on the left, scroll down to Amenities and select Electric car charging station to filter all hotels that have an EV charger.

  • Travelodge
  • Marriot

Benefits of Staying in a Hotel with EV Chargers

Electric car chargers are becoming more and more commonplace, but they’re not always easy to find when you’re on the road. That’s why hotels with EV charging stations can be a lifesaver for drivers of electric cars.

There are many benefits of staying in a hotel with an EV charger.

Not only do hotels with EV chargers offer a convenient way to recharge your car, but they also provide a safe and reliable place to park your car while you’re staying there.

Plus, booking a hotel with charging points can help you save money on fuel costs. Many hotels include charging in their room tariff or offer discounted prices.

And, if you’re driving a Tesla, you may even be able to take advantage of the Tesla Destination Charging program, which offers free charging at participating hotels.

And with more and more hotels across the country offering EV charging stations, it’s easier than ever to find one that meets your needs.

Tips for Choosing a Hotel With an EV Charger

Here are a few things to keep in mind when booking a hotel with an EV charger:

  1. Call the Hotel or Host: The best way to find out if a hotel has a working and accessible EV charger is to call them directly and ask. Many hotels list their EV charging availability on their websites, but it’s always best to double-check before booking. Book a slot in advance to avoid any disappointment.
  2. Check the Location of the Charger: When you’re calling the hotel, be sure to ask about the location of the charger. Some hotel EV chargers are located in the parking garage, while others may be in a designated spot in the hotel’s parking lot.
  3. Ask the Charger Type: Be sure to ask the hotel staff or your host about the type of charger that you require.
  4. Confirm the Charging (or Parking) Fee: When you book your stay, be sure to confirm whether there is a fee for using the charger or parking in the designated EV spot.

Hotel Doesn't Have an EV charger Available to Guests?

If your hotel doesn’t have an EV charger available, don’t worry – there are plenty of other options for charging your car while you’re on the road.

Here are a few things you can do:

  • Find a nearby public charger: There are many public chargers located across the country. To find one near you, check out PlugShare or ChargePoint.
  • Ask the hotel if they have a staff charger: Many hotels have chargers for their staff, but they may be able to accommodate guests as well. Call the hotel in advance to ask.
  • Bring your charger: If you have a portable charger, you can always charge your car at the hotel using a standard outlet if the hotel permits. You need to seek permission from the hotel staff before doing this – if you don't have any other alternatives nearby, they may be able to accommodate you for a fee.

No matter where you’re staying, there are usually plenty of options for charging your electric car already. And things are only getting better as more and more chargers are being installed every day.

With a little planning, you can ensure that you’ll always have a place to charge your car – and a hassle-free road trip.

We hope these tips have been helpful and you can now hit the road with confidence, knowing that there are plenty of options for charging your electric car. Safe travels!
